Monumental Secures €27 Million Series B Funding to Expand Robotics in Construction

Monumental, a company based in Amsterdam, specializing in automating construction through robotics and software, has announced a successful €27 million ($32 million) Series B funding round. The primary goals of this funding include growing the engineering team, increasing the deployment of robots, enhancing the robots’ capabilities to handle a wider range of construction tasks, and supporting the company’s expansion into the US market.

The funding round was led by Khosla Ventures, with additional participation from existing investors Plural and Hummingbird.

Salar al Khafaji, co-founder and CEO of Monumental, emphasized the importance of utilizing machines to address the global shortage of construction workers. He highlighted the company’s current fleet of robots that can lay bricks with precision and efficiency, ultimately increasing the industry’s capacity to build.

Monumental’s Series B funding comes at a time of significant investment in European construction technology and physical-AI companies. In 2026, approximately €130 million was raised by companies in this sector, with a significant portion allocated to construction-site technology, procurement, workflow software, circular materials, building resilience, and industrial robotics companies.

Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, emphasized the need for innovation in the construction industry to address rising costs and slow progress. He commended Monumental for its use of robotics to build structures efficiently and affordably, citing the company’s successful projects in Europe.

Established in 2021 by Salar al Khafaji and Sebastiaan Visser, Monumental aims to revolutionize construction by introducing software-defined and autonomous processes. The company’s fleet of robots has already completed numerous projects, including homes, schools, and canal walls, showcasing the potential of autonomous construction.

Monumental’s innovative approach is particularly crucial in countries like Britain, where there is a shortage of skilled construction workers. By deploying autonomous robots on job sites, the company aims to bridge this gap and accelerate construction processes.

With a focus on precision and efficiency, Monumental’s robots use advanced technology to lay bricks and mortar with millimeter accuracy. The company’s AI platform, Atrium, controls the robots, ensuring seamless operation on various construction projects.

Partners like Plural recognize Monumental’s impact on the construction industry, emphasizing the company’s role in addressing global challenges and closing productivity gaps. Monumental’s forward-deployed model and outcome-based pricing have set a new standard in the construction sector.

As construction productivity continues to lag behind other industries, Monumental’s efforts to streamline processes and enhance efficiency are crucial. By expanding its presence in the UK and planning for international pilots in the US, Monumental is poised to lead the transformation of the construction sector.
