Bethesda Announces Plans for Fallout 5, The Elder Scrolls 6, and More

Following recent layoffs at Microsoft, Bethesda has unveiled a detailed roadmap for their upcoming projects. In a recent blog post, the studio announced that Fallout 5 is currently in preproduction, alongside their main focus, The Elder Scrolls 6. Both games are being developed on a version of the Creation engine that was created after the launch of Starfield. Additionally, remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are also in the pipeline, although no release dates have been confirmed yet.

Bethesda outlined these plans in a blog post that offers a glimpse into what fans can expect from the studio in the coming years.

“Our teams are currently working on The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 using Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform that we have been building since the launch of Starfield,” a key section of the post reads. “This platform enables our teams to work on multiple projects simultaneously using new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games. Fallout 5 is in preproduction, while The Elder Scrolls VI is our main development focus, with the majority of our team dedicated to the next chapter of the franchise. We are on track with our development timeline and are excited about the progress we are making.”

In the Fallout section of the post, Bethesda confirmed that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in progress. They also announced a collaboration with Obsidian on a new Fallout project, in addition to a major expansion for Fallout 76 called Raven Rock, which will serve as a prequel to Fallout 3.

Regarding The Elder Scrolls franchise, the post revealed that ZeniMax Online Studios will work closely with Bethesda Game Studios on future Elder Scrolls titles, while also delivering new content for The Elder Scrolls Online. Starfield will receive new stories, gameplay improvements, and updates, as well as Starborn-themed content next year.

The post emphasized Bethesda’s commitment to investing in their game worlds, involving creators in the development process, and bringing their teams closer together to expedite game releases, provide long-term support, and build games alongside the community for years to come. The studio also announced that they will not make any announcements on October 23, opting instead to plan a special event for Fallout’s 30th anniversary in 2027.

In conclusion, the post reflects a sense of urgency and pressure resulting from recent layoffs at Microsoft. It is hoped that developers are not being overburdened to meet the company’s new goals, although concerns remain. Ultimately, Bethesda’s focus is on delivering quality experiences to players and fostering a collaborative relationship with their audience.
