Mortal Shell 2: Economy Update and Enemy Adjustments

Mortal Shell 2's first balance patch makes its in-game economy a lot more lenient and nerfs some enemies and bosses for a smoother ride

The Burden of Being a Game Developer

Developing a game comes with its own set of challenges, and even after a game is launched, there is always room for improvement. Mortal Shell 2 has been released today, and while it has been well-received, there is always work to be done, especially for a game in the Soulslike genre. To address some issues, developer Cold Symmetry has already rolled out the game’s first balance patch.

Changes in the In-Game Economy

The major focus of this patch is on the in-game economy. Shell map locations now require gloom, and players will receive refunds for any glimpses they have spent. These refunds can be found in the Shell Keeper’s alcove in Blackmarrow. Enemy drops have been increased significantly, with enemies in Mammon now dropping double the amount of gold they did before. The cost of smelting a weapon at the Tarforge has been reduced by 75%, allowing players to switch weapons more easily without excessive grinding.

Other Changes and Improvements

Apart from the economy adjustments, there have been several other changes. The HP values for enemies and bosses have been reverted to their beta values, with the exception of the Caerinid in Magdelena’s area. Various weapons and tarstones have received buffs, players can now use guard while walking, and several crash and bug fixes, as well as performance improvements, have been implemented.

Positive Reception and Game Review

The changes brought about by the balance patch have been well-received, but the game was already highly praised. In a review, Jeremy awarded Mortal Shell 2 the RPS Bestest Bests badge, highlighting the exceptional dungeon design. The game’s retro-feeling maps set it apart from other Soulslike games, offering a unique and expansive open world experience that rivals larger titles like Elden Ring and Nioh 3.
