Enhancing Productivity: A Review of the Memoket Gem AI Note-Taking Wristband
AI note-taking devices are currently in high demand, with various options available in the market. My initial encounter was with the Plaud Note, followed by the Plaud Note Pro, Plaud NotePin S, and Boya Notra AI Note Taker. Subsequently, I reviewed tablets with similar features such as the iFLYTEK AINote 2, AINOTE Air 2, and more recently, the TCL Note A1 NXTPAPER.
Amazon is inundated with Plaud clones, reflecting the popularity of these devices. Another noteworthy product that has recently entered the market is the Memoket Gem. This device, reportedly developed by a team comprising Anker Innovations, Tencent, Lenovo, Siemens, and Bosch, follows the same concept as other AI note-taking devices. It is a compact device that records audio, which can then be transferred to a phone for transcription by the preferred LLM at that time. Additionally, it provides summaries and various post-transcription processing features such as a one-pager and action items.
One key distinguishing factor among these devices is their form factor and underlying features. In the case of the Memoket Gem, it stands out as one of the more visually appealing devices. Resembling a tiny pebble or gem, it can be attached to a wristband or worn on a clip-on lanyard, similar to the NotePin S. Moreover, it boasts superior underlying features compared to many competing devices. For instance, it offers integrations with Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, Slack, and Notion, along with an MCP server for seamless integration with LLMs like Claude and ChatGPT.
Compared to Plaud, which has been on the market for a longer duration, Memoket offers a broader range of integrations, making it a more versatile option. The calendar integration feature is particularly noteworthy. While Plaud primarily provides meeting reminders, Memoket synchronizes actionable items with the calendar and can even add the recording itself to the calendar, complete with the date and time of the recording.
Having used the Gem on my wrist for several weeks, both in the office at AGT and while away from my desk, this review covers the hardware, app functionality, and the AI’s performance when handling real-world recordings.
Design
The design of the Gem is commendable due to its small aluminum alloy pebble form factor, weighing approximately 11 grams and measuring around 40 x 25 x 10mm. It is available in Midnight Grey and Moon Silver color options. The device features a single button on one side with a microphone, a light, and a second button on the other side. The intuitive feedback system, involving vibrations and lights, ensures users are aware of the device’s recording status, which is crucial when using it in social settings.
When purchasing the Gem, users can choose between a standard wristband suitable for wrists measuring 140mm to 220mm or an Apple Watch Co-Wear Band. The Co-Wear Band, secured with Velcro, allows users to affix the Gem underneath their Apple Watch, enabling seamless integration with various Apple Watch models. This innovative design approach eliminates the need to wear an additional device, ensuring that users always have the Gem with them. Additionally, pin clip and lanyard/necklace accessories are available for those who prefer alternative wearing options.
Charging the Gem is straightforward, facilitated by a small magnetic dock with pogo pins that attaches securely to the back of the device. The dock can be plugged into any USB-C outlet for convenient recharging.
App and Set-Up
Setting up the Gem involves pairing it with the Memoket app via Bluetooth. Recordings made on the Gem, even when not connected to the phone, are automatically synced to the app. For faster data transfer, users have the option to connect the Gem over Wi-Fi, enabling quick uploads of recordings. Once a recording is transferred to the app, the processing occurs rapidly. Within seconds of a recording ending, users receive a transcript, a brief summary, and a one-pager. The app also features MemoChat, a chat functionality that allows users to ask questions about specific recordings or their entire recording history. Notably, the data processing and storage details are transparently communicated, ensuring user privacy and security.
Integrations play a significant role in enhancing the overall user experience. Memoket offers seamless integration with Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, Slack, Notion, and various other platforms. This allows users to sync action items and recordings effortlessly, streamlining their workflow. The app also supports third-party integrations such as Zapier, Make, and n8n, along with an MCP connector for ChatGPT, Claude, and Manus. Additionally, Memoket is an official connector within Claude, offering users a seamless experience within the Claude ecosystem.
Subscription and Features
The Memoket Gem comes with a 1-year Pro membership, offering 1,500 transcription minutes per month. Following the initial year, users can opt for the free Starter plan, providing 300 transcription minutes monthly. For users requiring more transcription minutes, the Pro and Unlimited plans offer extended features and transcription limits. The subscription tiers cater to different user needs, with the Unlimited plan offering transcription up to 24 hours per day and access to the latest AI models with automatic updates.
In comparison, Plaud offers similar subscription plans but lacks some of the wider third-party integrations available on Memoket. The competitive pricing of Memoket’s subscription plans, combined with its robust feature set, positions it as a compelling choice in the AI note-taking device market.
Performance
The Gem underwent a rigorous stress test during a typical working day in an IT support office, capturing a 2 hour 39 minute recording encompassing support calls, office conversations, and background radio noise. The dual microphones and noise reduction capabilities of the Gem proved effective in capturing clear audio, even in a bustling office environment. The AI voice enhancement feature further enhanced the audio quality during playback, ensuring clarity and coherence.
Transcription accuracy is a critical aspect of any AI note-taking device. The Gem excelled in accurately transcribing complex office conversations, including technical jargon and background noise. Auto speaker labeling and support for multiple languages and dialects contributed to the overall transcription accuracy of the device.
Summarization and template features are among the standout capabilities of the Gem. The one-pager format provides users with a concise, visually appealing overview of lengthy recordings, making it easier to grasp key points without delving into the full transcript. The context linking functionality and MemoChat feature enhance the overall user experience, enabling seamless navigation across recordings and facilitating information retrieval.
Integrations
Memoket’s broad range of integrations sets it apart from its competitors. The seamless connectivity with Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, Slack, Notion, and Jira streamlines task management and collaboration. The support for Zapier, Make, and n8n, along with the MCP connector for various AI models, enhances the device’s versatility. The direct integration with Claude and other platforms elevates the user experience, allowing for a seamless transition between different tools and workflows.
Battery Life
The Gem offers up to 20 hours of continuous recording on a single charge, translating to approximately a week of normal use between charges. The quick recharging capability via the magnetic dock and USB-C charging ensures minimal downtime, making it a reliable companion for daily use.
Price and Alternative Options
The Memoket Gem is available for pre-order at a discounted price, offering value for users seeking a feature-rich AI note-taking device. The inclusion of a 1-year Pro membership adds further value to the pre-order package. The competitive pricing and subscription plans make the Gem an attractive option compared to its counterparts in the market.
