Recently, Apple unveiled macOS 26.7 Tahoe, which has sparked excitement due to hidden clues about upcoming Apple products. These clues include a sneak peek at the elusive AirPods with Cameras, hints about a new Apple TV 4K, and a plethora of hardware identifiers that have left tech enthusiasts guessing.

While some of this information may not come as a surprise, such as the upcoming releases of new iPhones, Apple Watches, and Macs, the cryptic code numbers have added to the speculation already circulating in the rumor mill.

Of particular interest is the insight into Apple’s home hardware lineup, specifically the long-awaited home hub. Reports about this device date back to late 2024, with numerous delays attributed not to hardware readiness but to Siri’s development progress.

Over the years, the speculated identities of Apple’s smart home hub have varied, from a HomePod with a screen to the current buzz around the name “HomePad.” However, concrete details have remained scarce beyond the realm of speculation.

Initial data from macOS 26.7 hinted at the device’s existence, with new code uncovered by Filipe Espósito at Engadget shedding light on the potential user interface of the device.

While expectations leaned towards an iPad-style interface for the home hub due to its anticipated square seven-inch screen, recent findings suggest that the screen’s shape may hold more significance than its size.

According to Espósito’s discoveries, although the home hub is likely to run a variation of tvOS like Apple’s HomePod speakers, its user interface could draw inspiration from watchOS.

References to “Faces” and a “Face Gallery” in the code imply that the larger screen may feature enlarged versions of Apple Watch faces that can be personalized with various widgets and Smart Stacks that change dynamically.

While the home hub may not support watchOS apps, it is expected to introduce its own category of apps in due course. Reports suggest that initial versions may prioritize built-in Apple apps like Notes, FaceTime, Reminders, and Calendar.

Additionally, leaked code hints at the development of two models, with distinctions between “HomeAccessory” and “HomeAccessory_wall.” Reports from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman suggest a wall-mounted home hub has been in the works since 2024.

Gurman’s insights also indicate that key employees have been testing the device in their homes, underscoring Siri’s role in the delayed launch since early 2025 when Apple aimed to enhance its voice assistant capabilities.
