Animal Crossing: New Horizons gets a new item to celebrate 25 years of the series

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Surprise Patch

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has recently rolled out a new patch, version 3.0.2, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the beloved life simulation series. This update is now available for both the original Nintendo Switch and the upgraded Switch 2 versions of the game.

The highlight of this patch is the introduction of a new leaf item to New Horizons. The best part? Every player automatically receives this item, so there’s no need to complete any special tasks to add it to your collection.

Once you’ve installed the patch, simply check your in-game mailbox to claim the leaf item. The accompanying mail contains a heartfelt message to all the dedicated fans who have supported the series over the years, complete with a nostalgic Nintendo N64 stamp.

Known as the Leaf Statue within the game, this new item emits a gentle glow when placed in your virtual world.

April 14, 2011, holds significance as it marks the original release date of the lesser-known version of Animal Crossing in Japan. Initially launched as Animal Forest (Dobutsu no Mori) on the Nintendo N64, the game later arrived on the Nintendo GameCube in December of the same year as Dobutsu no Mori+ with added features.

In a delightful nod to the past, players can now display the original game’s packaging design within their virtual homes. The remaining patch notes primarily focus on resolving various bugs, with further details available on Nintendo’s support website.
