Chinese Brand Steps Up to Honor Aussie Importer’s Cashback Offers Amid Legal Dispute
Xpeng Australia to Honor Customer Cashback Offers
Xpeng Australia has announced that it will uphold cashback offers for customers who purchased vehicles through the original distributor, TrueEV. This decision comes after complaints from customers who had not yet received payments of up to $5000.
Initially, a $3000 cashback offer was introduced in November 2025 for buyers of the Xpeng G6 mid-size electric SUV, competing with models like the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X. The offer was later increased to $5000 for vehicles ordered before December 31, 2025, but many buyers are still awaiting payment.
Xpeng Australia, now under direct operation by the Chinese automaker, will take over local distribution from TrueEV starting April 1, 2026. The company has reassured customers that it will ensure any outstanding cashback payments owed will be settled.
Brenton Dalton, Xpeng Australia’s national service development manager, emphasized that the cashback offer was initially promoted through TrueEV dealers and the distributor. For customers still awaiting payment, efforts will be made to resolve the issue either through TrueEV or Xpeng Australia directly.
In the event that customers are unable to obtain resolution through existing channels, Xpeng Australia is prepared to address outstanding payments on a case-by-case basis, provided the necessary documentation is provided.
TrueEV first introduced the Xpeng brand to Australia in 2024 under a five-year distribution agreement with the Chinese automaker. The brand’s presence has since expanded to 14 sites across Australia’s east coast, with additional locations planned for Melbourne.
Despite the ongoing dispute between Xpeng and TrueEV in the Federal Court, Australian Xpeng dealers continue operations as usual, with strong sales of the G6 model in the first half of 2026. The refreshed G6 model, set to arrive in showrooms soon, boasts a lower base price and improved features.
Looking ahead, Xpeng plans to introduce the G9 electric SUV and the X9 electric people mover to Australian showrooms by the end of 2026, expanding its lineup and offerings for customers.
With a commitment to customer satisfaction and support, Xpeng Australia aims to provide a seamless transition for customers and uphold its reputation in the Australian market.
