Unveiling the New BMW X5 M60: A Closer Look
- The latest image posted on BMW Group’s Facebook page showcases the upcoming V8-powered X5 M60, confirming its name and design elements.
- Following BMW’s trend of dropping the “i” suffix from gas models, the X5 M60 replaces the previous X5 M60i designation.
- While BMW has officially introduced several X5 variants, including the X5 40, X5 40d, iX5 60, and X5 M60e, the release date for the V8 model remains undisclosed.
The recent Facebook post reveals a sneak peek of the fifth-generation BMW X5, presenting the SUV’s rear end with a distinctive M60 badge in Dravit Grey Metallic, typically reserved for M Performance models.
Notably, BMW has not formally named this particular model until now, with only a mention of the V8-powered X5 without a specific designation. The unveiling of the M60 badge aligns with BMW’s strategy of removing the “i” suffix from traditional gas-powered models.
Transitioning from the X5 M60i to the X5 M60, BMW continues its trend as observed in the X3 M50, emphasizing a clear distinction between combustion and electric vehicle nomenclature.
Additionally, the shadowline trim featured on the X5 M60, replacing chrome accents with gloss black elements, serves as a visual cue for M Performance and M Sport models, reinforcing the model’s performance-oriented identity.
Anticipated Arrival of the BMW X5 M60 in 2027
Aligned with BMW’s official statements, the X5 M60 is slated for a 2027 release, following the initial launch of other X5 variants later this year. The V8 M60 model is expected to debut after the M60e plug-in hybrid variant, showcasing a blend of turbocharged power and electric capabilities.
While specific details regarding the V8 engine’s performance remain undisclosed, speculations suggest that the new model may surpass the current X5 M60i’s power output of 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.
With ongoing testing and potential enhancements, the upcoming X5 M60 aims to offer a compelling blend of power and performance, setting itself apart from its predecessors.
