Biggest US airline adds support for iOS 26 boarding passes in Wallet

Apple recently introduced a new and improved experience for airline boarding passes in Apple Wallet as part of iOS 26. United and Southwest were among the first airlines to adopt the new boarding pass format, and now American Airlines has also joined in.

The latest update to the American Airlines app for iPhone brings significant enhancements to the boarding pass feature. According to the release notes, the new boarding pass offers a fresh look with added functionalities such as access to Apple Maps, destination guides, and quick shortcuts within the app. Users can also track their luggage and utilize the Find My app directly from the boarding pass.

Your boarding pass has a new look with more at your fingertips, like Apple Maps, destination guides, and quick shortcuts to the app. You can also track your luggage and open Find My right from your pass.

The revamped boarding pass experience in Apple Wallet provides comprehensive flight details, including detailed airport information in Apple Maps, the ability to share flight information, and easy access to tracking AirTag-equipped luggage in the Find My app.

American Airlines’ adoption of the new boarding pass feature is significant, given that it is the largest airline in the US in terms of annual passenger count.

The new Apple Wallet boarding passes showcase a modern design and improved functionality, as demonstrated with Delta’s example:

Prior to this update, boarding passes in Apple Wallet provided basic flight information without the additional features now available.

The enhanced boarding passes in Apple Wallet are currently supported by American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Air Canada. Apple has announced that other airlines, including Delta, JetBlue, Jetstar, Lufthansa Group, Qantas, and Virgin Australia, are also on board to support the new feature.

So, the next time your American Airlines flight faces delays, at least you’ll have a visually appealing boarding pass to keep you occupied.

Delta drops support

While Delta initially embraced the new iOS 26 boarding pass format last November, the airline later encountered bugs and performance issues, prompting a return to the previous boarding pass implementation. There is no official statement from Delta regarding the potential re-launch of the feature.
