Uber’s European Expansion Faces Roadblocks
Uber Pauses Expansion Plans in Several European Markets
In a shift from its initial strategy, Uber has decided to put a hold on the launch of its services in five new European markets. The countries affected by this decision include Austria, Norway, and Greece, as reported by the Financial Times.
According to Uber, the decision to delay these launches comes after the successful introduction of its services in Finland and Denmark. The company aims to concentrate on maintaining its current momentum in established markets.
One possible reason behind this move is Uber’s ongoing pursuit of acquiring Delivery Hero, a European company that rebuffed Uber’s 10 billion euro takeover offer in May.
Uber is actively working towards finalizing the deal, with the hope of overcoming any potential antitrust concerns. By pausing expansion plans, Uber may address regulatory worries, particularly with Delivery Hero operating in some of the countries originally targeted for expansion.
