Fortnite Returns to Google Play Store After Epic Games and Google Resolve Disputes

Following the resolution of their long-standing disputes, Epic Games and Google have reconciled, allowing all Android users with compatible devices to once again enjoy playing Fortnite. The popular game is set to make its global return to the Play Store on March 19, coinciding with the launch of the next Fortnite season. Previously, Fortnite reappeared on the Play Store in the US back in December.

In 2020, Google removed Fortnite from the Play Store after Epic attempted to circumvent the 30 percent commission on in-app purchases imposed by the platform. Apple took similar action with the App Store version of Fortnite, leading to legal battles between Epic and both tech giants.

The conflict with Apple resulted in the company being required to open up the App Store in certain markets, including the US and EU. Fortnite reappeared on the EU App Store in 2024 and in the US the following year.

In November, Google and Epic reached a settlement, with Google subsequently announcing a reduction in its in-app payment commission from 30 percent to a range of 10 to 20 percent. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that Fortnite would be returning to Google’s mobile platform as part of the agreement, which reportedly included Sweeney refraining from negative comments about the Play Store until 2032.

Recently, Epic revealed a price increase for the in-game V-Bucks currency in Fortnite. Additionally, the original game mode, Fortnite Save the World, is set to become free-to-play in April.
