Unveiling the Game-changing Hidden Feature of One UI 9: A Daily User’s Perspective
Exploring the Purpose of One UI 9 from Samsung
Prior to trying out Samsung’s beta version of One UI 9, I questioned the necessity of a whole new update. While I appreciated the minor tweaks and customization options, I couldn’t see the significant difference it would make. After being disappointed by Android 17 on my Pixel 10 Pro XL, I had low expectations for One UI 9.
However, after using One UI 9 on the Galaxy S26 for three weeks, I discovered a game-changing feature that redeemed the entire update.
Introducing AI Network Guard for Screen Time Management
Managing excessive internet use on smartphones can be challenging, especially with addictive apps that keep us scrolling endlessly. One UI 9 introduces a new feature called ‘AI Network Guard’ that goes beyond simply blocking apps by disabling the internet connection when trying to access restricted apps.
This innovative approach helps in curbing app addiction by stripping the app of its internet-dependent features while leaving other essential tools on the phone unaffected.
To start browsing, I have to be intentional and fully committed to the task at hand
AI Network Guard has proven to be highly effective in preventing mindless browsing habits. It forces users to be intentional and focused when using their phones, ensuring that browsing activities are deliberate and purposeful.
By restricting access to popular apps like social media and browsers, AI Network Guard encourages users to stay productive and focused on their tasks.
Despite its effectiveness, AI Network Guard is not easily accessible within the settings menu, making it challenging to configure. However, this hidden nature also adds a layer of friction that deters users from bypassing the restrictions.
With AI Network Guard enabled, not even Tech Advisor will load
One major drawback of AI Network Guard is its lack of flexibility in scheduling. The inability to set different restrictions for weekdays and weekends limits its usability for users with varying routines.
With a more versatile scheduling tool, AI Network Guard could become a crucial screen time management tool for both parents and adults.
Focusing on the Key Feature: AI Network Guard
AI Network Guard stands out as the primary reason to consider downloading the One UI 9 beta. While the update includes several new features, most of them are minor enhancements rather than significant changes.
Features like new clock styles, redaction options in Samsung Notes, and visual tweaks may appeal to some users, but the true standout is AI Network Guard for its impact on screen time management.
Despite the multitude of additions in One UI 9, the significance of these updates remains questionable. The focus on AI Network Guard sets One UI 9 apart from other software updates, making it a must-have for users concerned about screen time management.
One UI 9 is set to launch on select Samsung devices in July before expanding to other compatible Galaxy phones. For early access, the beta version is currently available on Galaxy S26, S25, and S24 devices.
