Apple’s reportedly raising the price for AppleCare Plus on Macs and iPads

AppleCare Plus Subscription Prices to Increase for Mac and iPad Users

Apple recently announced that the cost of an AppleCare Plus subscription for Mac or iPad users will soon be on the rise. New sign-ups will see an increase of $0.50 per month or $5 per year, while existing subscribers will maintain their current rates. This adjustment, as reported by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, will result in higher prices for new plans, such as the 13-inch MacBook Air plan, which will now be priced at $7.99 per month or $79.99 annually, up from $7.49 and $74.99, respectively. Despite this news, the updated pricing has not yet been reflected on Apple’s website in the US or within their terms of service. Apple has yet to comment on this development.

Apple Raises Prices on iPads, Macs, and More Due to RAM Shortage

In addition to the AppleCare Plus price adjustment, Apple recently revealed price hikes on various products, including iPads, Macs, the Vision Pro, HomePod devices, and the Apple TV 4K. These price increases, ranging from $30 on the HomePod mini to a substantial $4,200 on the M3 Ultra Mac Studio, were attributed by Apple CEO Tim Cook to the ongoing RAM shortage. Cook mentioned that Apple has been attempting to protect customers from these cost increases, but the current situation has become unsustainable.

Impact of Price Hikes on Services and Future iPhone Launches

The rise in prices for services like AppleCare Plus is seen as a strategy by Apple to offset higher component costs. While iPhone prices have not been raised yet, it is speculated that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup could be affected by these changes when it debuts later this year.
