Microsoft Explores Integrating OpenClaw-Style Features into Copilot AI Assistant

In a recent report by The Information, it has been revealed that Microsoft is actively looking into ways to incorporate OpenClaw-style features into its Copilot AI assistant. The aim is to enable Microsoft 365 Copilot to operate autonomously and assist users with various tasks round the clock.

Omar Shahine, the Corporate Vice President at Microsoft, has confirmed the company’s interest in exploring technologies like OpenClaw within an enterprise setting. OpenClaw, an open-source platform allowing the creation of AI-powered agents that run locally on user devices, gained popularity recently. However, concerns regarding its security have also been raised.

Sources mentioned in The Information suggest that Microsoft is confident in developing safer versions of OpenClaw. The enhanced Microsoft 365 Copilot is expected to monitor users’ Outlook inbox and calendar, providing daily task suggestions. Additionally, Microsoft is exploring role-specific OpenClaw-like agents for marketing, sales, and accounting functions to limit permissions and enhance security within businesses.

During the upcoming Build conference starting on June 2nd, Microsoft plans to showcase these new features. Last year, Anthropic integrated its Claude AI chatbot into Microsoft 365 services and introduced Claude Cowork to Copilot for handling complex tasks. By incorporating OpenClaw capabilities, Microsoft aims to attract back customers who may have switched to competing services.
