Microsoft Surface Devices Experience Significant Price Increases

In a surprising move, Microsoft has decided to discontinue the $999 versions of the Surface Pro 11 and the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 7, replacing them with higher-priced models starting at $1,199. This shift was initially seen as a strategy to make way for the more affordable 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop introduced last May. However, even these newer devices are not immune to the price hikes. The entry-level 12-inch Surface Pro now starts at $1,049, up from $799, while the 13-inch Surface Laptop has jumped from $899 to $1,199.

Furthermore, the 15-inch Surface Laptop has seen a significant price increase, now retailing for $1,599 compared to its $1,299 starting price in 2024. Notably, a fully-loaded version of the 15-inch Surface Laptop featuring Snapdragon X Elite, 64GB RAM, and 1TB of storage now commands a hefty price tag of $3,649 — surpassing the cost of a 16-inch MacBook Pro with similar specifications, as reported by Windows Central.

These price hikes have intensified the competition between Microsoft’s Surface devices and Apple’s $599 MacBook Neo, which has been outperforming other Windows laptops. Speculations suggest that Microsoft may unveil new Surface devices in the upcoming spring or summer, potentially continuing the trend of high-priced offerings. Consumers should be prepared for the possibility of even more expensive models being added to Microsoft’s product lineup.
