Gang of Dragon appears to have been cancelled and the studio closed

What Happened to Gang of Dragon, the Game Announced by Toshihiro Nagoshi?

Back in 2025, at The Game Awards, Toshihiro Nagoshi, the former general director of Ryu Ga Gotoko Studio, made an exciting announcement about a new game called Gang of Dragon. This marked the beginning of a new venture for Nagoshi, who had left Sega to establish Nagoshi Studios.

However, since the initial announcement, there has been little to no news about the game. The studio’s YouTube channel and official website have both been shut down. Daisuke Sato, the co-head of the studio, now identifies as “Ex-Nagoshi Studios” in his bio. Furthermore, the Google Business listing for the Tokyo-based studio in the Ebisu district is labeled as “Permanently closed.”

In a surprising turn of events, Bloomberg reported earlier this year that NetEase, the game’s financial backers, declined a payout of $44 million to complete Gang of Dragon. Despite this setback, there has been no official confirmation regarding the game’s cancellation. Strangely enough, the game is still listed on Steam, suggesting that the studio may have forgotten to remove it after closing its doors.

It’s a mysterious and unfortunate turn of events for Gang of Dragon and Nagoshi Studios. The fate of the game remains uncertain, leaving fans and industry insiders wondering about what could have been.
